What do you want?

"WHAT do you want more than anything else in the world?"

I have asked that question many, many times during the last fifteen years, from
friend and stranger alike, during extensive business and speaking trips from
coast to coast. And invariably the answer has been the same: "I want more than
anything else in the world to be successful in my work!"

Well, there you have it in a nutshell. Men and women everywhere want, more than
anything else in the world, to be successful in their work. Nothing else seems
quite so important as that. And nothing else can fill the void that settles in
one's heart when success is unattained.

Fortunately, success is within the grasp of everyone. God has blessed every
human being on earth with a certain measure of ability. And that talent is
sufficient, if intelligently developed and utilized, to guarantee success in
accordance with one's ability, training and developed skill — in the words of
the Biblical parable: "to every man according to his several ability."

You Have The Talents

Remember the parable from the twenty-fifth chapter of the gospel of Saint
Matthew — the story of a master, who, planning a long journey into a far
country, called his servants together and divided his goods among them. One
received five talents, another two, and another one.

Your Body at its Best

Your Body At Its Best

ONE EVENING, many years ago, a young man came to the home of that great
humanitarian, Orison Swett Marden, in search of a formula by which he might
increase his ability and power to succeed. The young man was pale and weary
with signs of dissipation in his face.

Mr. Marden listened attentively to the young man's plea. When he had
finished, Mr. Marden asked in his gentle, friendly way: "What is your work,
my boy?"
"I'm a student at the university," he answered.
"But you look so tired and so weary," said Mr. Marden questioningly.
"Well, you see, Mr. Marden, I'm working my way through college," explained
the young man. "That means late study hours every night. I get pretty tired,
and I drink a lot of coffee to keep me going. Sometimes I take a little
whisky, too — to pep me up a bit when I'm just about all in."

The old gentleman looked at the young man quietly for a moment. Then he
spoke to him slowly, in a kindly, yet forceful way: "My son, if you
sincerely want my advice, then I'll gladly give it to you." The young man
nodded his eager consent. "First of all you must recognize the fact that
artificial stimulus is like a whip to a tired horse. It saps your energy and
can lead only to disaster. The only certain way to increase ability, to
multiply and strengthen one's faculties, is to build a good foundation of
health — a sound and a healthy body — and then to guard it as your most
precious possession, for that is really what it is. Vigorous, abounding
health will emphasize, reinforce, and multiply the forcefulness of all your
faculties, and the sum of these faculties constitutes your ability — the
force that creates, that achieves."

Mr. Marden's advice to that young man so many years ago is just as good and
vital for every one of us today, men and women, young and old.

The Successful Executive

A Warrior Dad practices success in all he does, he makes every moment of his
life special as every moment in life is special. In the training of the
"Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman his mentor says that there are "No Ordinary
Moments".

The Successful Executive

You must pay attention in life to everything you do, and each thing you do no
matter how small if you do it successfully it continues to build on success and
the journey builds a successful life.

Five Roads to Cost Reduction

Constant Need to Reduce Costs

The successful president of a large corporation told a group of business
acquaintances how he had changed his company from red to black figures in two
short years. He stated, "In all functions of our organization, I simply sought
answers to these three questions:

1. Do we have to do it at all?
2. Do we have the right person doing it?
3. Could we do it better in some other way?

No. 1. His company found that, by enclosing a bill with each shipment, about
half its customers would pay immediately. So it had its money earlier, was saved
rendering half its monthly statements.

No. 2. Attending their information desk was a shy, introvert girl who was
frequently affronted by brash salesmen. In the shop, a talkative, dominant girl
was repeatedly neglecting her duties as a line inspector to "visit" with other
employees. When the two girls were interchanged, two problems disappeared.

Preliminary Steps

The development of self-confidence begins properly with intelligent
self-examination. The mind must be closely scrutinized, undesirable tendencies
checked; faults eradicated, and correct habits of thought and conduct firmly
established.

To achieve the best results this personal overhauling, or stock-taking, should
be thorough and fearless.

Fear thought is a disease, to be diagnosed as carefully as any other malady. It
arises largely from perverted mental habits. The mind is permitted habitually to
dwell upon thoughts of doubt, failure, and inefficiency. So great does this
power become, when permitted to rule unchecked, that it affects to greater or
less degree almost every act of one's life.

Building the Will

The importance of will-power is recognized by most men, yet few deliberately
give any time or thought to its development. Why we resist one thing and yield
to another, may be due to "the strongest motive," but what more particularly
concerns us in the study of self-confidence is in what way this mighty power can
be built and directed.

Does desire control the will, or will desire? The psychologist points to the
testimony of consciousness as confirming our freedom to choose a certain course
and to pursue it, with the feeling that we could choose some other course if we
desired.

True Perseverance

Perseverance is that faculty which gives us the power to accomplish a piece of work with out allowing ourselves to be turned aside from our purpose either by the initial difficulties involved or by the obstacles that multiply themselves as we progress with our task.

It is that form of energy which enables us to develop sufficient strength of will never to be discouraged by the labor we have to face in accomplishing what we set out to do.

It is the art of marching directly forward toward the goal we have set before us, quite ignoring all temporary embarrassments, great or small, save by putting forth all our strength to surmount them.

It is the quality found in people of an enthusiastic temperament, who, once they have discerned the favorable possibilities of an enterprise, allow nothing to divert them and can never be defeated by the occurrences that tend to hinder its successful outcome.

The people who possess perseverance are of the type that is able to keep walking steadily in the path that has been chosen, despite the pitfalls encountered along the way.

Development of Physical Power

Here is an article from the
past that I think you will really like if you are into strength training which
is a great characteristic in being a Warrior Dad.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF PHYSICAL POWER -

Chapter 14 - The Bent Press

By Arthur Saxon

Constant practice is the only way in which one may succeed in raising a heavy

weight in this position. It will, no doubt be useful to read below how the
lift is performed, but it will be no use to expect an immediate increase in
your present lift simply by reading my instructions as to this position.
PRACTICE is the great thing, all the time endeavoring to find a position which
will
suit yourself. I will describe the bar-bell lift, as in a bar-bell more may be

raised than in any other way. The bell may be raised with two hands to the
shoulder, as described in the preceding chapter, or it may be raised to the
shoulder with a clean pull in, although, of course, when one reaches a very
heavy
weight, it is impossible to get it to the shoulder except by raising two
hands, and this is allowed in all professional contests, unless otherwise
stipulated.
