Rhino ATV Friendly for Family?
Fun with your family and ATV vehicles.
ATV vehicles can be plenty of fun for an exciting day outside with the family. However you must be careful with the type of ATV you buy for you and your family.
Since we here at WarriorDAD.com want to be on the side of safety for your family. We will first discuss a popular model of ATV that you should avoid.
There have been many issues and accidents with the Yamaha Rhino All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). Many people have been injured by these faulty Rhino ATVs
They have sustained broken and crushed arms and legs, as well as serious head injuries. Often, victims of the Yamaha Rhino become permanently disabled and have even had limbs amputated. Many riders - especially young children - have died as a result of these dangerous vehicles.
Both the Yamaha Rhino 660 and Rhino 450 ATVs have been implicated in many
serious injuries and some fatalities. Because of the vehicle's poor design,
Yamaha Rhino rollover accidents have been known to occur during turns, even when
the ATV is on a flat surface and traveling at a low rate of speed. These Rhino
defects also make it far more likely that passengers in the Yamaha Rhino will
sustain serious – and possibly fatal – injuries in the event of a rollover
accident.
First the the Yamaha Rhino is top heavy, a top heavy vehicle leads to rollovers, however add the fact that it has tires that are extremely narrow you have now doubled your chances for a rollover.
These design defects make it far more likely that the Yamaha Rhino will tip and rollover while going through a turn, even when the vehicle is traveling at a slow speed and is on a flat surface.
To make it even more hazardous for the riders, the Yamaha Rhino is designed in such a way that passengers’ legs are unprotected in the event of a rollover accident.
The Yamaha company response to the Rhino ATV issues
It was nearly a year that Yamaha Motor Corp. would even acknowledge that the
Rhino's defective design was to blame for the awful injuries suffered by so many
riders.
In August 2007, Yamaha Motor Corp. announced that it was offering to make modifications to the Rhino 660 and 450 ATVs in an effort to make the vehicles safer. These modifications included new doors and additional passenger handholds for the Rhino.
The modifications where offered free of charge to all purchasers of Rhino
vehicles, whether they bought their ATVs new or used. The doors were meant to
prevent passengers from falling out of the Rhino ATV in the event of a rollover
accident. In addition to the modifications, Yamaha issued yet another new
warning label to be placed on the Rhino ATVs. This label warned of the risk of
rollover and crushing injuries with the Rhino, even on flat open surfaces during
quick maneuvers or tight turns. Finally, Yamaha updated the Rhino owners manual
to include information about the modifications.
I for one would avoid this type of vehicle for your ATV family fun and visit this website for future recommendations. Until then be outdoors with your family however be safe.
